Flight delay foils Queen City United in UFL

Saturday, May 12, 2012
QUEEN City United had to scramble for time due to a flight delay, resulting to a lackluster 4-4 draw with Union Internacional Manila in the United Football League Division 2 games in Bonifacio Global City.
The team arrived on the pitch an hour before the match, leaving them with not enough time to rest, eat and warm up.

The team usually flies to Manila early in the morning to give their players time to rest but because of the two-hour flight delay, the players didn’t have enough time.
“Ala-una na mi naabot sa field kay traffic kaayo unya wa pay kaon ang mga players. Before intawon nagwarm-up kay diha pa na sila nakaon,” said head coach Mario Ceniza.
It was clear at the start how the players lack concentration in the game that was held at their least favorite pitch and Union Internacional took advantage, 2-0.
But QCU bounced back and scored three straight goals courtesy of Jan Michael Flores, Ariel Cahilig and an own goal for a 3-2 score.
In the second half, Union scored two goals to take the lead before Junard Aguilar’s got the equalizer five minutes from time.
“Wa juy tarong mindset pagsugod. If wa lang to nadelay ang flight, they could have played in their best condition pagsugod pa lang,” said Ceniza.
QCU is still in third place with 10 wins, three draws and three losses. Next week they will face current second placer Diliman Victory Liner FC at the University of Makati Field.
In Division 1, Pasargad surprised Stallions, 1-0, while James Younghusband scored in injury time to lift Loyola Meralco to a 2-2 draw with Kaya FC.
